Enjoy this amazing paragliding experience, considered by many as the one of the most beautiful landscapes for paragliding in Colombia, flying over the guatapé reservoir, and the valley next to it. A visit to Guatapé is one of the most spectacular day trips from Medellin, and is undoubtedly one of the most impressive destinations in Antioquia. Visit Colombia’s most colorful town, Guatapé is just 90 minutes from Medellin and that makes it a must-see for anyone who is visiting. In this 8-hour tour, we will discover its most emblematic landmarks and monuments and find a combination of zocalo-decorated town with beautiful architecture and the streets that surround it.

Situated just 10 minutes away from the town, is an imposing monolith overlooking a flooded dam, the peñol rock, one of the largest in the world with more than 200 meters above the surrounding countryside. Climbing up the 740 steps gives you incredible panoramic views over the breathtaking Peñol Reservoir below. This is an incredible town that you deserve to know for its magical experience, authenticity and its diversity. At the end of an unforgettable day of sightseeing around Guatapé, we will make the return journey to Medellin.

Departure location/ return location: 

  • Pick-up from your hotel, accommodation or place of preference at 7:00 am.
  • Drop off at your hotel or accommodation in Medellin after the tour.

Depart from Medellin in the morning and make your first stop in a small town called Guarne, where you’ll have Antioquian hot chocolate or coffee and a traditional arepa with homemade farm cheese for breakfast. From there, the guide will take you directly to the paragliding experience, taking advantage of the early morning winds that make the paragliding experience more attractive

After that, you’ll have another brief stop in the small town of Peñol before arriving at one of the area’s top attractions, Peñol Rock (La Piedra del Peñol). There, you’ll have the opportunity to climb more than 700 stairs to reach the top of this popular landmark and enjoy sweeping vistas of Guatape Lake and the surrounding mountains where we would have lunch with traditional food from the region of Antioquia.

After lunch, your tour guide will lead you on an informative historical walk through the picturesque pueblo of Guatape, visiting Calle de los Recuerdos, Plaza de los Zocalos and the town square and historic cathedral. There is also programmed into the tour free time in Guatape for the visitor to explore the city on their own if desired then we will head back to the city of Medellin and you will be dropped off at your desired location.

What should I bring on the trip?

We recommend wearing sunscreen and sunglasses, a hat or cap, comfortable shoes and clothing, low-denomination money and leave valuables at the hotel. It is important to always carry an original identity document.
